The City Speaks - Street Art Workshop Series

Urban space is never empty. Even the quietest wall is already full of meaning, in its cracks, its stains, the flyers half-torn from its surface.
We work with the idea that the city is not a background, it's a dialogue.

That’s how The City Speaks began, not as an art class, but as a monthly experiment in visual resistance and public communication. It’s a space where paint becomes language and public walls become platforms. The workshop takes place every second Saturday of the month, beginning in May 2025, from 16:00 to 19:00. Participants range in age from 16 to 30, and we welcome everyone, regardless of experience level. You don’t have to be an artist. You just need a reason to express something.

Each session begins with short, raw case studies: underground movements in Brazil, feminist stencils in Paris, forgotten political paste-ups that survived winter. We don’t glorify, we study. Then, we create.

Inside, we sketch, cut stencils, test spray flow, and map potential message layers. The tools are provided. paint, gloves, cardboard, protective masks. But the ideas come from the streets we walk and the lives we lead. If your message fits in a hashtag, we’ll stretch it. If it doesn’t fit anywhere else, we’ll give it a wall.

When conditions allow, we go out, to permitted walls, plywood panels in empty lots, or hidden corners we reclaim for meaning. In one session, the work might be a single line in five languages. In another, it might be a four-person layered mural.
